Privacy Statement

Privacy Statement

Athena: Journal of Social, Culture and Society, published by Media Digital Publikasi Indonesia, respects the privacy of people who use its website and participate in its publication activities. Personal information is used for identified journal purposes and handled with appropriate care.

1. INFORMATION PROCESSED

Depending on the service used, journal records may include names, affiliations, email addresses, ORCID identifiers, account information, professional interests, submission and review records, correspondence, and relevant publication-payment information.

Technical systems may also record information needed to operate and secure the website, such as connection details, browser information, and access logs.

Authors submitting information about co-authors should ensure that those individuals know their information is being provided for journal administration and publication. Do not supply unnecessary sensitive personal information.

2. PURPOSES OF USE

  • Manage accounts, submissions, reviewer assignments, editorial correspondence, and production.
  • Publish articles, attribution information, declarations, and relevant editorial listings.
  • Support DOI registration, indexing, discovery, and authorised archiving activities.
  • Administer applicable payments and maintain necessary financial records.
  • Maintain security, respond to enquiries, assess integrity concerns, and meet applicable obligations.

Information must not be used for unrelated purposes without an appropriate basis and any required notice or consent. Providing an email address for submission or review does not automatically subscribe someone to promotional communications.

3. INFORMATION MADE PUBLIC

Published articles and metadata normally identify authors, affiliations, and relevant declarations. ORCID identifiers and designated corresponding-author contact details may also be published. Authors should check these details before publication.

Editorial and advisory listings may include agreed names, affiliations, positions, and academic profile links. Administrative contact information is not automatically intended for public display.

Public information may be indexed, downloaded, redistributed, or retained by external services. The journal cannot guarantee removal of copies held independently by those services. Private reviewer information is governed by Confidentiality.

4. ACCESS AND SHARING

Non-public information is accessed by authorised personnel and service providers only as needed for their assigned functions. Appropriate safeguards should govern hosting, technical support, payment administration, and other processing arrangements.

Relevant information may be shared with competent institutions or authorities when necessary for a legitimate integrity assessment or binding obligation. Such disclosure should be proportionate and appropriately protected.

Private author, reviewer, and editor contact lists must not be sold or supplied to advertisers for unrelated promotional use. Public article metadata is distinct from private administrative contact lists.

5. COOKIES AND EXTERNAL RESOURCES

The journal platform may use cookies needed for account sessions and essential functions. Blocking these cookies may affect login or submission functions but does not create a registration requirement for reading open-access articles.

Where visitor counters, analytics, embedded images, or other external resources are used, their providers may receive technical information when those resources load. The journal should identify active services and provide their purposes and privacy links in a service-specific notice or cookie information panel.

Non-essential tracking must not be activated without consent where consent is required. Visiting the website is not blanket agreement to unrelated tracking or marketing. External websites reached through links apply their own privacy practices.

6. SECURITY AND RETENTION

The journal applies proportionate safeguards to protect records against unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure. Users should protect their account credentials and report suspected compromise. Absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Private records are retained according to their continuing purpose, applicable obligations, and legitimate editorial, financial, or integrity needs. Information should be deleted or anonymised when it is no longer necessary and no retention obligation applies.

Published attribution and bibliographic records are normally maintained as part of the scholarly record. Account deletion does not automatically remove an article, author attribution, or required publication history.

7. PRIVACY REQUESTS AND CHOICES

Individuals may request access to or correction of their information and seek deletion, restriction, or other handling where applicable. Requests are assessed against relevant obligations and the rights of other people. Proportionate identity verification may be necessary.

Where processing depends on consent, individuals may withdraw that consent for future processing, subject to applicable conditions. Withdrawal does not automatically invalidate earlier lawful processing or revoke a valid publication license.

Marketing preferences are handled under Direct Marketing Policy. Corrections to published personal information follow the relevant publication-record procedures, with appropriate privacy safeguards.
