Copyright and Licensing Policy

Athena: Journal of Social, Culture and Society is an open-access journal in which authors retain copyright to their published work. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

1. COPYRIGHT OWNERSHIP

Copyright remains with the author(s). Athena does not require authors to transfer copyright ownership to the journal or publisher as a condition of publication.

By publishing in Athena, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and authorize CV. Media Digital Publikasi Indonesia to publish, distribute, preserve, index, and disseminate the article as part of the scholarly record under the applicable open-access license.

2. CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE

Unless otherwise indicated for specific third-party material, all articles published by Athena are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under this license, users are free to:

Share
Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
Adapt
Remix, transform, translate, and build upon the material.
Reuse
Reuse the material for both commercial and non-commercial purposes.

These permissions apply provided that users give appropriate credit to the original author(s), acknowledge the original publication in Athena, provide a link to the CC BY 4.0 license, and indicate whether changes were made.

3. AUTHOR PUBLISHING AND REUSE RIGHTS

Authors retain broad rights to reuse and disseminate their work after publication.

  • Authors may reuse their article in subsequent scholarly works.
  • Authors may include the article in a thesis or dissertation.
  • Authors may use published material for teaching, lectures, presentations, and academic activities.
  • Authors may distribute copies to students, colleagues, and research collaborators.

4. SELF-ARCHIVING POLICY

Athena permits author self-archiving without an embargo period.

  • Submitted Version: Authors may archive the manuscript version originally submitted to Athena in an appropriate open-access or institutional repository.
  • Accepted Version: Authors may archive the accepted manuscript following completion of the peer-review process.
  • Published Version: Authors may immediately archive and distribute the final published version of record without embargo.

When depositing the final published version, authors should acknowledge Athena as the original place of publication and provide the article DOI and a link to the official journal version whenever available.

5. PERMITTED ARCHIVING LOCATIONS

Authors may deposit their work in appropriate scholarly locations, including:

Third-Party Copyrighted Material

The CC BY 4.0 license applies to original article content unless otherwise stated. Photographs, figures, tables, datasets, maps, illustrations, quotations, or other third-party material may be subject to different copyright or licensing conditions. Material excluded from the article's CC BY 4.0 license should be identified accordingly, and users must obtain additional permission where legally required.
