Allegations of Misconduct

Allegations of Misconduct

Athena: Journal of Social, Culture and Society considers substantiated concerns about research or publication integrity before and after publication. A report initiates assessment; it does not establish that misconduct occurred.

1. SUBMITTING A REPORT

Send concerns to athena@mediadigitalpublikasi.com using the subject line Integrity Concern – [Article or Submission Identifier].

  • Identify the manuscript or article, including its title and DOI or submission identifier where available.
  • Describe the specific concern and the passages, data, figures, or actions involved.
  • Provide relevant evidence, source links, or an explanation that permits assessment.
  • Identify any conflict affecting the handling of the report and any confidentiality concern.

Reports may concern authors, reviewers, editors, or publishing personnel. Reporters should avoid sending sensitive personal data through unsecured channels.

2. INITIAL ASSESSMENT

The editorial office records the concern and acknowledges receipt where contact details are available. A non-conflicted editor assesses whether the report concerns the journal, contains sufficient detail, and requires clarification or further examination.

Reports are considered on their substance rather than the reporter’s seniority, affiliation, or relationship with the journal. Anonymous reports may be assessed when they contain sufficiently specific information.

Unsupported assertions may require additional details. Closing an insufficiently supported report does not prevent reconsideration if material new evidence emerges.

3. FAIRNESS AND REFERRAL

Relevant parties are normally given an opportunity to respond to specific concerns, subject to necessary safeguards. Limited preliminary checks may precede notification where evidence preservation or participant protection requires it.

Where further examination is warranted, the case is referred under Integrity Investigations. Institutional or other competent bodies may be asked to investigate matters beyond the journal’s authority.

Editorial processing may be paused while a credible concern is assessed. A pause is precautionary and is not a finding of misconduct.

Related Policies: Whistleblowing addresses reporter protection and confidentiality. Integrity Investigations governs examination and case outcomes. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern govern changes to the published record.
