Digital Preservation

Athena: Journal of Social, Culture and Society recognises the importance of maintaining the scholarly record beyond the continued operation of its website. The journal does not currently participate in an independent long-term digital preservation service.

1. CURRENT ARRANGEMENTS AND LIMITATIONS

Published articles are available through the journal’s online platform. The management of these publication records is described in Archiving Policy.

Availability on the journal website, DOI registration, and inclusion in indexing services do not establish independent preservation of the full text. Operational backups, where maintained, support recovery but are not equivalent to a preservation arrangement independent of the publisher.

At present, no independent custodian or service-based access arrangement has been established to guarantee continued availability if the journal and publisher cease operating.

2. PRESERVATION DEVELOPMENT PLAN

The journal’s proposed preservation pathway is to assess participation in a suitable independent service, including the PKP Preservation Network where the journal’s OJS installation meets the applicable requirements.

Implementation requires verification of technical compatibility, acceptance of the service terms, successful content deposits, and checks of the publication coverage actually preserved.

This plan does not constitute enrolment or confirmation of preservation. No service will be identified as preserving Athena until participation and deposited content have been verified.

3. DISCLOSURE OF VERIFIED COVERAGE

When an arrangement becomes operational, this page will identify:

  • The preservation service or custodian.
  • Verified publication years and content coverage.
  • Available evidence of successful preservation.
  • Access arrangements following a qualifying interruption or cessation.
  • The verification date and any known coverage gaps.
Related Information: Author deposit rights are provided in Repository and Self-Archiving. Those permissions support dissemination but do not establish an independent journal-preservation service. Preservation enquiries may be directed to office@mediadigitalpublikasi.com.
