Advertising Policy

Advertising Policy

Athena: Journal of Social, Culture and Society may accept clearly identified advertisements relevant to its scholarly readership, subject to prior review and approval under this policy. Advertising space is separate from published research and does not confer editorial privileges.

1. ADVERTISEMENTS THAT MAY BE CONSIDERED

Eligible categories may include scholarly books, legitimate academic events, research tools, educational resources, and professional opportunities relevant to the journal’s readership.

Advertisements must identify the responsible organisation and accurately describe the offer. Claims about credentials, indexing, accreditation, outcomes, or affiliations must be supportable. Linked destinations must be consistent with the approved advertisement.

Inclusion in an eligible category does not guarantee acceptance. The journal may decline material that is unsuitable for its audience or inconsistent with its scholarly standards.

2. ADVERTISEMENTS NOT ACCEPTED

  • Misleading, deceptive, discriminatory, unlawful, or harmful material.
  • Services offering purchased authorship, fabricated research, manipulated citations, fake reviews, or guaranteed editorial acceptance.
  • Unsupported guarantees of indexing, accreditation, citation performance, or publication outcomes.
  • Material that impersonates a journal notice, article, reviewer recommendation, or editorial decision.
  • Links involving malware, deceptive redirects, unauthorised collection of personal information, or other practices that compromise user security.

3. APPROVAL AND RESPONSIBILITY

An authorised representative of Media Digital Publikasi Indonesia reviews advertising requests and decides whether to accept them under this policy. Review includes the advertiser’s identity, proposed claims, destination links, format, and placement.

A person with a relevant personal or financial interest in the advertiser must disclose it and refer approval to a non-conflicted authorised representative. Promotions for the publisher’s own services are subject to the same content and identification standards.

Advertising approval is a commercial and website administration function. It does not authorise manuscript assessment, acceptance, or interference with an editor’s decision.

4. IDENTIFICATION AND PLACEMENT

Advertisements are clearly labelled Advertisement or Paid Advertisement, as appropriate, and visually distinguishable from journal content. Promotional material for the publisher’s own services is identified as Publisher Promotion.

Advertisements may appear only in designated website areas outside the scholarly article text. They must not be inserted into article PDFs, references, abstracts, or editorial decision correspondence.

Placement is selected manually for general relevance to the journal’s readership. Advertisements are not selected according to an individual reader’s browsing behaviour, linked to the findings of a specific article, or served through an automated random advertising network.

Advertising must not obstruct reading or downloading. Pop-ups, forced redirects, autoplay media, and advertisements disguised as download or submission buttons are not permitted.

5. ADVERTISING AND SCHOLARLY CONTENT

An advertisement is not a peer-reviewed contribution or an endorsement of the advertised product, service, or organisation. Advertisers may not imply journal approval beyond the permission to display the advertisement.

Purchasing advertising does not provide preferential manuscript handling, favourable coverage, influence over reviewer selection, or control over corrections and other editorial notices. Detailed safeguards are defined in Editorial Independence.

Indexing logos, manuscript-template links, and ordinary journal navigation are not automatically advertisements. Paid placement, affiliate benefits, or other promotional arrangements must be identified rather than presented as neutral journal information.

6. REVIEW, SUSPENSION, AND REMOVAL

Advertisers must notify the publisher of material changes to approved content or destination pages. Revised material requires renewed approval.

Advertisements may be suspended or removed if claims become misleading, links become unsafe, or placement no longer meets this policy. Urgent removal may precede further clarification where reader security or serious deception is involved. Advertising removal does not alter the scholarly record.
