SCHOLARLY RECORD & LONG-TERM PRESERVATION

Archiving and Digital Preservation

SAGA: Journal of Technology and Information Systems recognizes the importance of preserving published scholarly content and maintaining the integrity, accessibility, and continuity of the academic record.

The journal is owned and published by Media Digital Publikasi Indonesia , which holds institutional responsibility for supporting the preservation and continuity of its publications.

This policy describes the journal's preservation objectives, institutional responsibilities, and principles for maintaining published scholarly content over time.

01   POLICY STATEMENT

SAGA is committed to supporting the long-term preservation of its published scholarly record.

Digital preservation is intended to reduce the risk of permanent content loss resulting from technical failures, system migration, operational disruption, or discontinuation of journal publication.

The journal recognizes that continued availability of scholarly content requires appropriate preservation planning, technical maintenance, and institutional accountability.

This policy establishes the journal's preservation principles and does not, by itself, constitute evidence of participation in any particular external archiving service.

02   DIGITAL PRESERVATION OBJECTIVES

SAGA's digital preservation objectives are to:

  • Support the long-term retention of published scholarly articles;
  • Reduce the risk of irreversible loss of published content;
  • Maintain the integrity and authenticity of scholarly records;
  • Support the continued availability of bibliographic information and publication metadata;
  • Facilitate restoration of content following technical disruptions;
  • Support appropriate preservation arrangements if the journal ceases publication.
03   SCOPE OF PRESERVED CONTENT

The journal's preservation planning concerns its published scholarly record, including the following categories, where applicable:

  • Published article full-text files;
  • Article titles, author information, abstracts, and keywords;
  • Journal issue and publication metadata;
  • Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and associated bibliographic records;
  • Supplementary research materials published as part of the scholarly record;
  • Published notices that form part of the article's publication history.

Preservation coverage may differ according to the technical capabilities and documented arrangements of the systems or services used by the journal.

Confidential submissions, unpublished manuscripts, and private peer-review correspondence are not treated as publicly archived scholarly publications under this policy.

04   INSTITUTIONAL PRESERVATION RESPONSIBILITIES

As the owner and publisher of SAGA, Media Digital Publikasi Indonesia is responsible for supporting the institutional arrangements necessary for journal preservation.

These responsibilities include:

  • Supporting preservation planning and operational continuity;
  • Identifying appropriate preservation methods or service providers;
  • Maintaining oversight of relevant preservation arrangements;
  • Supporting recovery planning for published journal content;
  • Ensuring that publicly disclosed preservation information accurately reflects actual arrangements.

The organizational relationship between the journal, its owner, and its publisher is described separately in the Ownership and Management policy.

05   DIGITAL PRESERVATION PRACTICES

Appropriate digital preservation practices may involve a combination of technical and organizational measures.

Depending on the arrangements implemented by the journal, these measures may include:

  • Maintaining recoverable copies of published article files and associated metadata;
  • Using storage arrangements that reduce dependence on a single technical environment;
  • Conducting appropriate integrity checks of preserved files;
  • Supporting format migration when necessary to maintain future usability;
  • Maintaining documentation relevant to content recovery and preservation;
  • Reviewing preservation arrangements as technology and operational requirements change.

These practices describe possible preservation measures. Their inclusion does not imply that every measure is currently implemented or externally certified.

06   METADATA AND PERSISTENT IDENTIFIERS

Bibliographic metadata plays an important role in the identification, discovery, and management of published scholarly content.

SAGA recognizes the importance of maintaining accurate publication metadata and persistent identifiers where assigned.

Metadata preservation supports the continued identification of articles, their publication context, and their bibliographic relationships.

DOI registration and metadata dissemination can support scholarly discovery and persistent identification. However, these functions alone do not constitute full-text digital preservation.

07   CONTENT INTEGRITY AND PUBLICATION HISTORY

Digital preservation should support the integrity and authenticity of published scholarly records.

Where published content is subject to an authorized post-publication action, the journal should maintain appropriate documentation of the publication history.

Preservation arrangements should distinguish legitimate changes to the scholarly record from accidental alteration or data corruption.

The criteria and procedures for corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are described in the journal's Correction and Retraction Policy .

08   CONTINUITY AND DISASTER RECOVERY

The journal recognizes that publishing infrastructure may be affected by unforeseen technical or operational disruptions.

Potential risks include:

  • Hosting or server failure;
  • Accidental deletion or corruption of files;
  • Cybersecurity incidents;
  • Software or infrastructure migration;
  • Extended interruption of publishing operations.

Preservation and recovery planning should consider how published scholarly content can be restored or made available following such events.

Operational recovery procedures may depend on the technical environment, service arrangements, and available preservation copies.

09   JOURNAL CESSATION AND CONTINUED PRESERVATION

If SAGA permanently ceases publication, the owner and publisher should take reasonable steps to support the continued preservation of previously published scholarly content.

Depending on available arrangements, such steps may include:

  • Maintaining an accessible archive of published articles;
  • Coordinating with an appropriate preservation service or repository;
  • Preserving article metadata and publication identifiers;
  • Providing public information concerning the journal's publication status and available archive locations.

Continued access may depend on the preservation services, contractual arrangements, and technical resources available at the time.

This statement expresses the journal's preservation commitment and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of uninterrupted access under all circumstances.

10   PRESERVATION TRANSPARENCY AND REVIEW

SAGA is committed to providing accurate information about its digital preservation arrangements.

Where the journal participates in an external preservation service, the relevant service name, coverage, and verification information should be disclosed when available.

Preservation arrangements may be reviewed periodically to reflect changes in technology, publishing infrastructure, or institutional requirements.

The journal should update its public preservation statement when material changes occur.
