Updated Journal Policies and New Article Template

SAGA: Journal of Technology and Information Systems announces the implementation of updated journal policies and a revised article template as part of our continuing effort to strengthen editorial transparency, research integrity, publication ethics, and the quality of scholarly communication.

The updates are intended to provide clearer guidance for authors, reviewers, and editors and to ensure that the journal's editorial and publishing practices remain consistent, transparent, and appropriate for an international peer-reviewed open-access journal.

Updated Journal Policies

Effective 8 September 2026, SAGA has reviewed, clarified, and updated several journal policies and editorial guidelines, including:

  • Focus and Scope — revised to provide clearer coverage of Technology & Computing and Information Systems & Digital Transformation.

  • Peer Review Policy and Process — clarified to reflect the journal's double-blind peer-review process and the role of independent reviewers.

  • Publication Ethics — strengthened provisions concerning authorship, contributorship, research integrity, conflicts of interest, ethical oversight, data integrity, complaints and appeals, and editorial independence.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy — introduced clearer requirements concerning responsible use, disclosure, human oversight, author accountability, AI-assisted research, and the use of AI by authors, editors, and reviewers.

  • Plagiarism and Similarity Screening Policy — clarified the distinction between similarity and plagiarism and the journal's approach to similarity screening and editorial assessment.

  • Copyright and Licensing Policy — clarified that authors retain copyright and publishing rights, while articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

  • Correction, Expression of Concern and Retraction Policy — strengthened procedures for maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record after publication.

  • Article Processing Charges (APC) — clarified that SAGA does not charge submission, peer-review, editorial processing, or publication fees.

  • Publication Frequency — clarified the journal's regular publication schedule and continuous submission policy.

  • Author Guidelines — revised to provide clearer requirements for manuscript preparation, structure, references, ethical declarations, and submission.

  • Disclosure Statements — expanded to include Author Contributions, Funding, Conflict of Interest, Data Availability, Acknowledgements, Use of Artificial Intelligence, Ethical Approval, and Informed Consent, where applicable.

  • Abstracting, Indexing and Discovery Information — reorganized to provide clearer and more accurate information regarding the journal's scholarly visibility, indexing, DOI registration, and metadata infrastructure.

These revisions are intended to improve consistency across the journal's editorial policies and provide authors with more transparent information throughout the submission, peer-review, publication, and post-publication processes.

New Article Template

Along with the policy updates, SAGA has introduced a revised article template, effective for manuscripts submitted from 8 September 2026 onward.

The revised template provides a more consistent structure for manuscript preparation and introduces clearer sections for research reporting and disclosure statements.

Authors submitting a new manuscript on or after 8 September 2026 are required to prepare their manuscript using the latest SAGA article template available on the journal website.

Transitional Provision for Earlier Submissions

These changes are prospective and will not be applied retroactively in a manner that disadvantages authors.

Manuscripts submitted before 8 September 2026 will not be considered non-compliant solely because they were prepared using the previous template or followed the journal policies and submission requirements applicable at the time of their original submission.

Authors of manuscripts submitted before the effective date are therefore not required to resubmit or reformat their manuscripts solely because of this update, unless specific changes are subsequently requested by the editorial team as part of the normal revision or production process.

Similarly, articles already published before 8 September 2026 will remain part of the journal's scholarly record and will not be considered problematic merely because their format, disclosure statements, or presentation differs from the newly adopted requirements.

Effective Date

The updated journal policies and revised article template take effect on:

8 September 2026

The new requirements apply primarily to new submissions received on or after this date.

SAGA encourages all prospective authors to review the latest Author Guidelines, Article Template, and relevant journal policies before submitting a manuscript.
