Research submitted to Renaissance should be conducted and reported honestly, transparently, and responsibly. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, undisclosed competing interests, duplicate submission, and other practices that compromise the integrity of the scholarly record are unacceptable.

Ethical concerns are evaluated according to their nature and available evidence. The journal will seek clarification and relevant documentation where necessary before determining appropriate editorial action.

Authors are responsible for the integrity, accuracy, originality, and ethical conduct of the research they submit. Authors are expected to:

• Submit original work and appropriately acknowledge and cite the ideas, words, data, methods, and other contributions of others.
• Ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal while it is under consideration by Renaissance.
• Provide accurate information about authorship, affiliations, funding, competing interests, research ethics, and other disclosures required by the journal.
• Ensure that all individuals listed as authors have made appropriate contributions to the work and have approved the submitted manuscript.
• Obtain necessary permissions for copyrighted, confidential, personal, culturally sensitive, or otherwise restricted material.
• Retain relevant research records and provide reasonable clarification or supporting information when legitimately requested during editorial assessment.
• Cooperate with the journal in investigating credible concerns relating to the submitted or published work.
• Promptly inform the journal if a significant error or integrity concern is identified in their submitted or published article.

Authorship should accurately reflect substantive contributions to the scholarly work. Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be recognized appropriately, such as in the Acknowledgments or contributor statement.

Guest, gift, honorary, and ghost authorship are not acceptable. All authors should approve the manuscript and accept accountability for their respective contributions.

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must be explained to the editor and normally require agreement from all affected authors. Such requests will be assessed before approval and may require supporting documentation.

Authors must appropriately acknowledge sources that have influenced the research and must clearly identify quotations, paraphrased material, reproduced content, datasets, methods, and other work originating from third parties.

Authors must not present another person's words, ideas, data, images, or research findings as their own. Detailed similarity screening procedures and any applicable editorial thresholds are provided separately in the journal's Plagiarism Policy.

Research involving human participants, personal information, interviews, surveys, observations, recordings, or other forms of human participation must comply with applicable ethical requirements and relevant institutional or legal standards.

Where ethical approval or informed consent is required, authors should provide an appropriate statement in the manuscript and be prepared to provide supporting information to the journal when reasonably requested.

Privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and the rights of participants must be respected throughout the research and publication process.

Because Renaissance publishes research concerning culture, society, local wisdom, indigenous knowledge, and customary communities, authors should conduct such research with appropriate respect for the rights, dignity, knowledge, values, and cultural contexts of the communities involved.

Where appropriate, researchers should obtain relevant permissions or consent for access to culturally sensitive knowledge, community information, recordings, images, artifacts, or other materials that are not intended for unrestricted public use.

Authors should avoid unnecessary disclosure of sensitive cultural information when publication could reasonably cause harm to individuals or communities.

Authors must disclose financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, interpretation, or publication of their work.

Editors are responsible for safeguarding the integrity and independence of the editorial process. Editors are expected to:

• Evaluate manuscripts on their scholarly merit, relevance, and suitability without inappropriate discrimination.
• Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, reviewer communications, and unpublished information.
• Select appropriately qualified and independent reviewers.
• Identify and appropriately manage competing interests.
• Avoid involvement in editorial decisions where a personal, professional, financial, or institutional relationship could compromise impartiality.
• Protect the independence of editorial decisions from inappropriate commercial, institutional, or personal influence.
• Consider credible allegations of research or publication misconduct and take proportionate action when necessary.
• Protect the integrity of the published scholarly record.

Reviewers contribute independent scholarly assessment and should conduct reviews responsibly, objectively, constructively, and confidentially.

Reviewers are expected to:

• Accept review assignments only when they have appropriate expertise and sufficient time to complete the review.
• Treat manuscripts and associated materials as confidential.
• Provide objective, evidence-based, respectful, and constructive comments.
• Avoid personal criticism or discriminatory considerations.
• Disclose potential competing interests and decline a review when impartial evaluation cannot reasonably be provided.
• Avoid using unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal, professional, academic, or commercial advantage.
• Avoid requesting unnecessary citations for the purpose of increasing citations to themselves, associates, institutions, or particular journals.
• Inform the editor of significant ethical or integrity concerns identified during review.

The publisher is responsible for supporting the journal's editorial infrastructure, maintaining appropriate publication policies, preserving the integrity of the publication process, and cooperating with editors when significant publication-ethics concerns arise.

Commercial or organizational interests must not improperly influence editorial decisions concerning individual manuscripts.

Concerns relating to possible research or publication misconduct will be assessed fairly and with appropriate confidentiality. The journal may request explanations, original data, documentation, permissions, ethics records, authorship information, or other relevant evidence when necessary to evaluate a concern.

Authors and other parties concerned should be given an appropriate opportunity to respond to material allegations. Where necessary, the journal may seek guidance from COPE resources or communicate with relevant institutions or other appropriate bodies in accordance with applicable procedures.

Editorial action will depend on the nature, seriousness, evidence, and publication status of the matter concerned.

Authors, readers, reviewers, and other parties are encouraged to inform the journal of significant errors or credible integrity concerns relating to published material.

Where the scholarly record requires amendment, the journal may take an appropriate post-publication action. Detailed procedures for corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, and related amendments are provided in the journal's separate Correction & Retraction Policy.

Ethical complaints should be submitted to the journal with sufficient information and supporting evidence to permit appropriate assessment. Complaints will be considered objectively and, where appropriate, independently of individuals directly involved in the matter.

Requests for reconsideration of editorial decisions should identify the decision concerned and provide a clear scholarly or procedural basis for the appeal. An appeal does not guarantee that an editorial decision will be changed.
